About Claire

I’ve always been perplexed by the way some see a hard line separating the sciences from the arts, but both are intensely creative and beautiful disciplines. I find a great deal of inspiration in math and science. My hope is that my work can illuminate the connections between these creative pursuits. Whether it be the cloud and bubble chamber experiments that offered a visualization of ionizing radiation, the doodle of a mathematician playing with prime numbers and spirals, or compass and ruler constructions of geometric forms, the sciences are a boundless well of creative material.

Despite its static nature, glass is an incredibly changeable medium for art. The textures and colors dance with light in ways that shift throughout the days and seasons. The use of glass with surface treatments allows it to continue to delight the eye at night when light must reflect off the piece rather than transmit through it.

As part of Portland Open Studios Tour, I was visited by KOIN6, a local news station.

We spent a few hours making a small piece together interspersed with talking about the Tour and about stained glass, live on the air.

Fun with glass at 5am!
